A Fairer Society Sussex and Kent

Mission: Placeholder statement (we adhere to the principles of consent so the mission is in formation): We aim to build a community of committed households between 18 months and 3 years from our start date (May 2017) supported by the expertise offered by A Fairer Society. Our position is that cohousing communities are not synonymous with inward-looking gated communities. We will always reach out to the wider community, and look to build connections with other intentional communities around the world through existing international networks and direct contacts, and we see this work as part of the global network for a fairer, sustainable society.

We’re a cohousing community working in partnership with ethical property development company A Fairer Society Homes (AFS). Our vision is to create affordable, beautiful, ecological homes on a land plot in Sussex or Kent, and we’re looking for new members. Our unique community name has yet to be decided.

Our model of cohousing provides each household with their own private home, whether that is a studio apartment or a 5-bedroom house, situated adjacent to a community centre (‘common house’) with shared facilities. These could include a larger kitchen, an event space, guest bedrooms, a laundrette, and other amenities. This is a community-led development, which means we, the people who live in the property, are playing a leading role in developing it.
