Meet the neighbors:

Mission: The VillaNueva building incorporates sustainability at multiple levels, including material-efficiency (reduced use of land, building materials, energy), pedestrian access (proximity to public transit, healthy food, walkable neighborhoods), social experiences (attention to private spaces, community spaces and connections to the urban fabric), and natural affordability. VillaNueva residents engage the larger community, from neighborhood organizations, to the international dialogue of sustainability and resilience.

We are forming a group of working professionals to create this dynamic transit-oriented community, and develop its mission. VillaNueva is a five-story walkup with offsite parking. Use of alternative transportation modes, like electric cars, walking, transit, biking, scootering, and car sharing are highly encouraged.

From www.ic.org/directory/villanueva/:

VillaNueva is a green, urban, naturally affordable, one-bedroom rental community between downtown Salt Lake City and the Salt Lake City International Airport. Scheduled for occupancy Summer 2016, the community will be co-operated by the owner and tenants. Community design is available here: http://cargoarchitecture.ca/en/portfolio_page/villa-nueva/

At over 160 dwellings/acre, the five-story design provides sweeping mountain views, amenity-rich shared patios, and private balconies. The 435-square-foot units are optimized to accommodate one or two young professionals and guests. Units are IKEA-furnished, inspired by cohousing and tiny house design. For example, kitchens are facing common breezeways to encourage social interaction. Ample storage is carefully organized to facilitate tiny house-style living.

Prospective tenants are needed to finalize simple community agreements.

VillaNueva was inspired by its sister property, Spence Garden Community, opened in 2010. Spence is an NAHB Green Emerald, refurbished 8-plex located blocks from Arizona State University and light rail. Sustainability graduate students co-operate the property, and recommend future tenants.
