Windward

Windward began with an effort in the 70s to create a new Venice in the Caribbean. When this effort was destroyed two folks moved to Nevada, cultivating a small polyamorous family that became Windward. By the 80s they'd raised the capital needed to move onto the land.

In 2005, the remaining founder began looking for new members in the younger half of life; to pass on skills, knowledge, infrastructure, and leadership to.

LOVE BASED LIVING- many members of Windward are a polyamorous line-family, a relationship structure evolved from belief that intimacy (intellectual, emotional, physical & spiritual) are core "tools" we have to build connections to sustain community in good times &bad, and pass on the reins from generation to generation.

It's clear to us that LOVE is the most powerful and abundant creative tool we have & the more of a spirit of love, communication and honesty permeates Windward the more "sustainable" we are.

We use our relationship energy with the same intention that we use the rest of our life energy - to build community and a good life that is in balance with the land we love and live with.

We're happy to talk about it to those who are genuine seeking understanding.

ECOVILLAGE BUILDING- Working with the land is a big part of Windward. Our 130 acres of high, dry, cold-temperate forest is considered of "marginal" by most.

This fragile & unique landscape poses interesting challenges as we learn to live within it's woodlands and prairies. We're working on integrated, broad-acre village scale permaculture systems to meet our needs for food, water, clothing, shelter, energy, other materials.

We've a ways to go, but we're well underway in implementing many facets of these complex and fascinating systems. There is quite a lot more to be done & many niches to get involved in cultivating this village ecosystem.

GROWTH & TRANSITION- We're in process of constructing housing for our members. We utilize Rv's and Mobile Homes as intermediary housing as we develop our capacity as natural builders.

We're straddling the divide between transition and stability, & are looking for more brave hearts & wild souls to join us in the adventure.
